Transmission 2

We've received another mysterious transmission from Catty. This time it includes shots of Dead Tired Spectra wearing pieces borrowed from Legacy Day Raven Queen and Picture Day Abbey. Wonder what it could all mean?...

This Spectra utilizes the "old" facemold. No one will be surprised to learn that I'm very pleased by this.

On Legacy Day Raven this outfit comes across as costume-y, very much a "doll dress". But on Spectra it reads as fun and funky with a metal edge.

At this point it seems you never know what facemold you're gonna get on Spectra. Mattel keeps going back and forth on which one they use depending on the doll. Can they just not make up their mind?

Not that I'm complaining. Only occasionally getting the original mold is better than not getting it at all. (Sidenote: Spectra looks like such a badass in this outfit!)

Dead Tired Spectra's hair is still smooth and shiny like we're used to with her, but the texture itself is somewhat brittle. It's also rooted a bit thinly. That said, this is Spectra we're talking about! Her hair, even when not in excellent condition, is still better than about 90% of other dolls' hair. If you prefer the original facemold and have plenty of clothes to change her into (her nightgown is cute but not what most want on their fashion doll) you can't go wrong with DT Spectra! And since she's a budget doll the price is right, too.

In the meantime I'm wondering what the deal is with these transmissions...

  1. Gorgeous. Simply gorgeous.
I don't know what you're planning, John, but I hope it's gonna knock my socks off. :)

    1. Thanks Listie! Well, what I have in mind is honestly quite simple conceptually, but grand in scale. Hopefully it doesn't disappoint -- the concept/idea is very simple.

  2. I feel like I just woke up and a dream of mine came true! Like getting an early birthday gift, 2 months in advance lol! Sweet Goddess! She looks truly amazing in Raven's LD outfit. I really love the result.

For the hair, try letting it soak for a little while in a mixture of softener and warm water (about 5 minutes) and to remove the crimps, boil-wash the hair (about 2 minutes) and then, comb or brush it gently.

    1. Glad I was able to get you up on the right side of the bed today! ;) Honestly her hair, though a tad brittle, isn't so bad that it's distracting or anything. It's just a little harder than Spectra's hair usually is, but it's not "poorly manufactured" or anything. I'll probably just leave it be in that regard. HOWEVER, I've had this doll for about a month and those creases from the packaging are STILL THERE! Usually the creases seem to work themselves out but this time I may need to intervene. It's been a minute since I did a boil wash, and I like doing them, so it'll be nice to "dip the boil" as I like to call it. (Yep, big ol' nerd here!)

    2. Yup, you certainyl did got me up on the right side of the bed, he he ;-)
Truly amazing photoshoot. I was so pleasantly surprised.

Oh and... "dip the boil"... What do I find that a bit kinky? Lol! ;-)

    3. Well, it was only fair I return the favor. Lol :) I think referring to any activity as some form of dipping has a way of sounding dirty. Maybe my subconscious did that on purpose ;)

    4. To be honest, we're both Scorpios so... you know!
We were born with a dirty mind, he he ;-)

    5. Isn't awesome being a Scorp? Although at times it is kind of the agony and the ecstasy lol. What day are you?

    6. It certainly is awesome!
And yes, it can be both agony and ecstasy. Especially since my ascendant is also Scorpio, which makes me pure, so to speak. Let me tell you... I fully feel the effect of the full moon, handsome.

      I'm on November 13. ;-)

    7. You're also pretty much right in the center of the sign's dates. That makes a difference too as I'm sure you know. I'm on the cusp of Sagittarius -- Nov 19. I also have moon in Sagittarius. My ascendant is Taurus -- such a boring sign lol. They say a person's best match is someone whose sun and moon signs are the opposite of yours -- Jim Morrison has sun in Sag and moon in Scorp, and yes I've always thought he was sexy. I like intensity and he definitely had that!

It's funny being our sign because you really do pick up on everything, both good and bad. It seems like we can't help but tune into some frequency others don't. My best friend is also a Scorp and he's like that too. It's cool because we have an unspoken understanding of each other's intensity and how it effects us. There aren't many people who seem to really understand being so intuitive, how it just happens without trying. We just know things, man. I love being a Scorpio so much.

  3. Man, how lucky you are to find all the dolls you want! You have Legacy Day and Catty already while here in Europe (the civilized part, not HERE here!) they still sell the Siamese twins and tease people with promise of having the EAH "soon". Spectra looks amazing in metal gear. Can you calibrate your camera's white balance? Mine has a setting where I point it to a surface that should be white and it corrects itself.

    1. Thanks for the tip, Kitty! I can try that but the simple fact of the matter is my camera is a point-and-shoot that I bought five years ago. It may not even have that option. I know my pics aren't always the greatest, but given what I'm working with I think they turn out fairly well. If I could ever get myself to stop buying so damn many new dolls I might actually be able to save up and get a fancy new camera! My lighting setup and editing software are just plain laughable! Again, given what I'm working with I think the shots come out okay. I definitely need to invest in some better equipment and editing software!

    2. When the choice is between more dolls and a new camera, you shouldn't even consider the camera! :D I'm sure yours has some kind of hidden settings too. I also use a cheap pocket camera and my previous one from 2006 had the same options; I wouldn't have needed a new one if not for the fact that it was stolen.
Sorry about the whining. I love your pictures because you don't use flash, they show everything that is needed and my brain can autocorrect the yellow; don't worry about your equipment and keep shooting.

    3. Thank you so much, Kitty! For understanding the doll addiction and for the words of encouragement!

    1. I bought mine online (the 'bay) quite a while back. They were selling them for barely above shelf price and had actual pics of the dolls in-box so I knew what I was getting. And so I bought them. Although funnily enough, they ended up being import dolls. Although from what I can tell they're just like the US dolls. Also, apparently what face we get on each Spectra doll depends on where she was manufactured.
