Bric-A-Brac starring Catrine, Operetta, Clawdeen

For today's shoot I gathered Kohl's Operetta, Catrine, and Scaris Clawdeen. I really meant for this shoot to be a spotlight primarily for Operetta, but things didn't go that way. Catrine just has a way of stealing the spotlight without even meaning to. As for Clawdeen -- well, it's her Scaris version so (f)lawlessness was inevitable. Anyway I threw 'em in some different outfits and got to snapping...

Catrine... sigh

Scaris Clawdeen... le sigh

Kohl's Operetta... damn

The whole trio.

"My purse is made of bones. Isn't that cool!" "My purse is made of a cassette. You know, from the 80's. And it's labelled "monster mix". Stop wasting my time and come back when you've learned vintage trumps goth. Always."

Kohl's Operetta has been re-released, by the way. This is an almost miraculous -- and nearly unheard of in the MH world -- second chance for those of you who couldn't get the best Operetta to date the first time around to do just that. Take advantage of this rare opportunity.

Scaris Clawdeen makes the purple netting on the midriff work in ways Abbey simply can't, in my opinion.

Unnngg. So perfect.

If you're one of those people whose fashion philosophy includes tights =/= pants, you won't like these pics. Everyone else, enjoy!

I really owe reader Mighoula a debt of gratitude. Somehow I had nearly forgotten just how astounding Catrine's beauty is until she reminded me in a recent comment. Thanks, Mighoula!

This is Catrine 2, by the way. Isn't she stun-gorge?

Hmm, I may have to throw stun-gorge onto Urban Dictionary and just include a picture of Catrine as the "definition"...

And we end with my current favorite motif. Heel in purse = pain in beauty. Too pretentious?

As always, thanks for reading! I can't say enough how much I appreciate you guys and your support! I know sometimes things can get a little crazy within the fandom and differing opinions can lead to occasional spats, but I love our little community anyway! MH = love.

  1. This is just delightful and fierce! Love it! And Operetta's little barb:" Stop wasting my time and come back when you've learned vintage trumps goth"... LOL!!
You're crazy and funny! Great job! ;-)

  2. This really makes me excited to discover the upcoming "New Scaremester" Catrine. I wonder if she'll change her hair color, as in her bio she says "today it's lavender. Tomorrow, qui sait?".
(And there will also be a new Jinafire, Skelita and Clawdeen). Intriguing line.

    1. I agree that this is an intriguing line. I'm actually *very* excited about it! I adored all three of the new characters we got from Scaris, so getting all three of them again in a new line that presents them as Signature dolls is basically a dream come true for me. Catrine is the only one we still haven't seen artwork for yet -- so curious what Mattel has in store for us regarding her...

    2. Oh it would be so cool if Mattel would give Catrine a completely new color pallette for her NS look, and that would be so fitting for her character since she's an artist! Maybe that's why there still hasn't been a picture of her artwork released? This whole New Scaremester line feels like a Scaris part 2, haha!

    3. It really does -- how funny that all three of them are resurfacing in the same line. I would say it almost shows a lack of creativity on Mattel's part, but I'm too excited we're actually getting new dolls for all of them. Plus we've seen the new designs (besides Catrine, of course), and the looks are all definitely creative.

    4. I can't wait to see the new Catrine and the new Jinafire. So excited. Hopefully, the upcoming New-York Comic-Con next week will have some nice surprises for us.

    5. I have a feeling it will. FCA will be hitting shelves before too long so I imagine Mattel will be debuting the other two new characters from that line. Plus there's a good chance there'll be some from other lines as well. I hope we get a glimpse of the NS dolls and GS Spectra!

    6. GS Spectra?
As in Ghoul Spirit Spectra? Are you kidding me? My heart just skipped a beat! Is this a new info?

      Delete
    7. Yep, there's a Ghoul Spirit Spectra! It was posted last night on MHD. Pretty exciting, huh! I hope they do something really outrageous with her design, something totally unexpected!

    8. Oh... my.. ghoul!!
So excited!! Can't wait to get more details! This is the perfect occasion to do something outrageous and wild with her hair!

      Delete
    9. I think it'd be cool to see her with short hair. Something close-cropped and sleek. And new colors for her eyeshadow and lips. Blow us away, Mattel!

    10. Not sure about you but right now, I'm a bit disappointed with Ghoul Spirit Spectra. What the hell have done to my ghoul? She looks horrible...

On the good side.... Jinafire in sexy red pants! Catrine with long hair! FCA/Black Carpet Lagoona and FCA/Black Carpet Operetta! Totally did not expect any of these two! They both look stunningly gore-geous. Especially Operetta with the fully black bangs! OMG!!

Art Class Skelita is a true beauty. I'm not a fan of Cleo but the entire (or almost entire) black hair.... very befitting. Love Art Class Abbey.

So many amazing dolls! Can't wait to see the rest of the reveals.
And last, but certainly not least.... Elissabat and Viperine! Wow! Simply wow! They're both beautiful beyond belief, right? So fierce. (And I know I'll be getting 2 Elissabat because I know a certain ghostly lady who will look fabulous in that outfit... he he).

Keeping fingers crossed for today and the next 2 days to follow.

    11. I'm going to be doing a full roundup on NYCC and my opinions on the reveals after the Con ends. So I don't want to say just yet what my opinions are on what we've seen so far. What I will divulge is that I agree on Spectra -- not sure what's going on there, but I'm not loving it, that's for sure.

  3. Love the pictures and the restyles, great job! Catrine really is such a beauty, I wonder if there even is an outfit that won't look good on her! And you're welcome for the reminder ;)

  4. im very interested in the upcoming releases NS and GS are my most anticipated lines i really want to see the 3 scaris girls in a different way and as for GS im so excited for slo-mo he is one of my favs from the show and not to mention a certain fav zombie boy-toy... also cant wait for GS frankie i just hope they don't mess up her eyes... i also really want to see the FCA dolls i bet the BC line is going to be great !!

    1. Rickyyy! How's it going? :)

I'd honestly go so far as to say Slo-Mo is one of my most-anticipated dolls right now. My how things change ;) GS Frankie is downright hawt! Frankie's eyes have been such a buzzkill lately. My HTC doll had those round saucer eyes but it was an acceptable amount of roundness I suppose. My Swim doll's eyes are so freakin' round and misshaped that Frankie literally looks insane. Anyway, moving on... Hopefully we get to see Catrine soon. Did you see the colorized pic of NS Skelita? Looks like she'll have some blue streaks as well as orange -- it looks really cool. Plus blue and orange is one of my favorite color combos.

  5. no i i didn't see the colored skelita pic i have only seen the black and white but im definitely looking forward to it, i loved her scaris doll but mine had really great hair in the front curls and the back was just a frizzy skimpy mess, so im hoping that her new doll will have better hair quality !! so excited for the new lines but also i am on a search for an older line, i have been really interested in the gloom beach line and have found some on line at ridiculous prices but i might just have to get it, i think that line is one of the best to date, particularly im interested in the 5 pack because it has the exclusive ghoulia in it and man does she look great i love the red eye shadow on her and her grey scale lipstick she just rocks, i don't know why but i love the grey and silver scale eye shadows and lipsticks on the ghouls (they used it a lot in the scaris line, it looked great on clawdeen, frankie and rochelle) and also frankie from the GB line is amazing i love her outfit and cleo looks great too but really all 5 of them do im really excited to find it and i just think the older dolls have a better quality to them their face ups were so amazing and more realistic, the face ups we get now a days is a little more childish and i prefer a more adult look and the first few MH lines definitely had that quality anyways i hope i can get one of the 5 packs soon it is just being able to afford it that is the problem !!

    1. Unfortunately Skelita didn't have the best hair texture. I have my doubts that they'll change it for the new doll (they used the exact same saran for ILF Scarah), but you never know :) If you can find the GB 5-pack for an acceptable price I say get it! Those dolls are all amazing. I agree about the quality of the older dolls, it was better than the new dolls. Even with the elastic leg joints (which I personally have never had a problem with but I know a lot of people who did). The GB faceups are gorgeous, love those muted color tones, especially on the lips. Really beautiful and unique. I wish Mattel would get a little more creative with the faceups on the new dolls. They're good, pretty, but more often than not, not very unique or unexpected.

  6. oh and also i miss your great reviews don't get me wrong i like what you have been doing and you know i love looking at your creative pics but please for me will you throw in one of your awesome traditional reviews from time to time... i mean a really in depth review with all the stops from great pics to your witty banter right down to every little detail of a great face up (for an example, something like the review you did on EAH apple white) sorry if this seems rude but i really miss that and would love to read one of your great reviews :)

    1. Thanks Ricky :) I have to admit I was hoping to have another full review up by now but, to be honest, I don't even know who'd I want to do one on. There are several possibilities but I can't seem to make up my mind. Nobody "feels right" to review or something. But I know you guys are ready for a new one and I'm hoping to get one up soon. Your comment wasn't rude, it was actually very nice!

  7. personally i would love to see you review the 2 new power ghouls not only because im a huge frankie and toralei fan but because i love that line and i think it would be a fun review to do and it would complete your power ghouls review because you have already did a spectra and clawdeen review and the new toralei and frankie are awesome !!

    1. Good suggestions, Ricky. If I do one it would probably be of Toralei. But I don't want to promise it since I don't have anything prepared for it. But you never know. :)

  8. Thanks for the head's up on Kohl's Operetta being re-released. I missed her last year but thanks to your comment I headed out to Kohl's and found her! I adore her dark faceup.

    1. Awesome! Glad you were able to get one! It's Operetta's best faceup imo. A bit sultry but still cute and fun.

  9. Wow, John – yet another gorgeous set of photos! I absolutely adore these – the lighting is perfect, and you truly have a special talent for inventing interesting lifelike poses. I had no desire to get Catrine until I saw these photos. I now realize it was her outfit that turned me off. You've styled her in such a fab way. Again you've made me want a character that I originally did not want! The photos of her on the chair are just so captivating and realistic. And Scaris Clawdeen... perf! Guess what? ILF Scarah and Clawdeen and GNO 4-pack are in the mail on their way to me! My collection is going to explode soon... I'm so excited to gain all of those new fashions and shoes to mix-and-match.

    1. Thanks Eric! Catrine is surprisingly versatile -- she looks good in a lot of different styles. So if you decide to get her there are a lot of possibilities for redressing her. Glad the pics came out okay because she kept toppling over in that little chair! Congrats on your new finds! Scarah... sigh. Actually, Clawdeen too -- love that doll! And the 4-pack! You have much to look forward to! Between six dolls and the extra ILF stuff that's a massive haul of clothes and shoes! You're collection really is exploding, dude! Better start investing in more shelves and bookcases lol :)

    2. I dunno. Maybe becasue of those PMs I sent you a couple of weeks ago that you never replied to. I was thinking you were avoiding/ignoring me. Forgive my paranoia.

      Some good news, though. I got some new dolls the other day;

Yay! Frankie dolls & swim Rochelle! (now I have all her dolls :D )
Also, don't know if you saw my Twyla pics. She's so adorable. I haven't been able to take any new pics the last couple of days, because I'm helping my parents paint the bathroom (we recently had it renovated).

    3. Oh I see. I went about 2 weeks without logging into Flickr. Sorry about that :-/ Ever since I started a Tumblr I haven't been going to Flickr as much. Actually Tumblr PMs are probably the quickest way to contact me now. :)

Congrats on the new dolls! Especially Swim Rochelle -- isn't she a beauty?

    4. Damn you and your Tumblr obsession! ;-P
Don't you need an account to send those, though? :-/

Actually, I sent you a PM on Flickr.

    5. LOL I have become quite addicted! It's fun over there! I don't think you have to have an account to message someone. I PM'd MHInsider a question once before I had an account and it went through. :)

  11. ok so finally the pics of NYCC are up on EAH dolls facebook page, they posted 22 pics so far and i have to say i am very impressed, there were a couple let downs but really great over all... i think im most excited for FCA-the new stars(honey, viprine and elissabat) FCA-BC (draculaura and lagoona) i love the look of the new AC (skelita) and also excited for NS (jinafire and catrine) i thought the picnic casket 2 pack looked really sweet too !! lots of great new stuff... what did you think of it ? oh and also i finally picked up the ashlynn and hunter 2 pack and i have to say ashlynn is pretty great and also they released the pics of cersie hood on the EAH dolls facebook page

    1. I don't wanna go to in-depth on my opinions on today's debuts -- I'm gonna do a full post on everything NYCC when it's over. :) Congrats on your 2-pack!!! Is Ashlynn your favorite now? I saw Cerise and imo she's incredibly beautiful. She has a sort of "icy hotness" about her, if that makes sense.

    2. I saw your reaction on Tumblr about Viperine. I knew you'd love her, considering her 70's hippie style. I like her, too. The platinum blonde hair with pink streaks in that Farrah Fawcett style is gorgeous! But I like Elissabat lots more. Totally my style! :D

      Delete
    3. What I like about Viperine are her creepy, fierce eyes, outfit detailing, and that lush hair. She's weird and cool. :) I like Elissabat but I think maybe my expectations were too high. I was hoping she'd be more straightforward "goth", but she's actually quite sweet looking. She reminds me a lot of Draculaura, actually.

      Delete
    4. Well, in defence of Elissabat, there are plenty of goth subgenres.

      Delete
    5. Good point :) I think I just had too-high expectations. Elissa's a lovely doll :D

      Delete
    6. Many people are saying Elissabat is too much like Draculaura. Some people even think that Elissabat is actually Draculaura in disguise! One way or another, she sure is pretty but perhaps a tiny bit too sweet looking.

As for Viperine, many says she's an albino snake... Me, I just call her fiercely beautiful, lol!

      Delete
    7. Viperine is too perfect -- she and Honey are the two I'm most excited for of the new characters. I'm still really amped for the Sweet Screams line actually -- can't wait for those two!

    8. Have you seen NS Clawdeen's faceup, yet?
      She's got subtle leopard prints.

It also looks like she's got brown hair with purple streaks on one side, and green streaks on the other.
P.S. check out that person's photostream for more pics!
