Nouveau. A la mode. Monstres.

Summer may be coming to an end but gorgeous new MH dolls certainly aren't!

Scarah is here. John is pleased.

What's this? A male doll on Voicething? Never say never, indeed!

Has the fan community decided what to call this Spectra yet? The playset she comes with is called Party Lounge. Party Lounge Spectra makes the most sense, I suppose. But personally I've been calling her the much more succinct, and infinitely more cool, DJ Spectra!

2013 has been a great year for fabtabulous Clawdeen dolls!
ILF Clawdeen is yet another winner for this fun, fierce character!

I've had her for a minute now but I'm just now getting around to debuting Swim Frankie on the blog. Frankie+blue streaks+stripey bangs+bold faceup=WIN! (Wicked swimsuit, too!)

Dead Tired Robecca is yet another winner. The more naturalistic makeup totally works for her!

Not one but two male dolls making their debut on Voicething? Is that a pig I just saw fly by?

Sorry Ghoulia, Cleo's too busy loving shoes to work on yall's class project!

Heath's doll is a total cutie! He and Abbey look great together, in my opinion.

Can this girl work it or what!

Anybody else prefer DJ Spectra in just her minidress, belt, and shoes?
Don't get me wrong, I like the top that's worn over this, I just feel the minidress on it's own is more "Spectra".

Between the wavy, middle-parted hair and the return of the original facemold,
DJ Spectra may just be my favorite 2013 Spectra doll!

I really can't get enough of these group shots.

Once you remove the apron, Abbey's outfit is pretty damn cool.
It'd look just as good at the disco as it does at school!

ILF Clawdeen's wolf tee is errthang!

As the year has progressed I've been keeping a tally of my favorite 2013 dolls for this year's best-of list coming in December. Without giving too much away, let's just say that ILF Scarah is the only doll that could give a certain Chinese dragon we met at the "tail" end of last year some competition as my favorite 2013 doll. Oh wait, think I just gave too much away! ;-D

Swim Frankie's faceup reminds me vaguely of her SRM faceup.

*Swoon*

That's it for today, friends! I'm hoping to have a review ready for Voicething's one year anniversary in a few days. Fingers crossed!

Til next time!

  2. Swim Frankie's hair reminds me of racing stripes; It's so bold & vivid. I love it!
You're not helping me contain my excitement & anxiousness regarding ILF Scarah! *lol* Knowing she's currently outdoing Jinafire in your books makes me really want her. Eek! Jealous!
Speaking of Jina, did you see my photoshoot of her? I borrowed some of my sister's Chinese NY items, plus my own parasol.
I also recently did some swim suit designs for her, Oppy, and Spectra. What did you think of them? 0:-)

    1. Yep, you're in for a treat with Scarah, my friend! Can't wait to read your reaction to her. I have a feeling it'll involve lots of exclamation points and copious use of the word "love" and any synonyms to it! ;)

I'll be cruising your Flickr stream and will let you know my thoughts! ;D

    2. Excuse me, I'll have you know I'm an adult, *not* a teenager. Such puerilty is below me, thank-you-very-much! Hmph!

      LOL J/K
I'll probably do a little happy dance when I get her (and Cat Tastrophe). :D

    3. LOL!

Now that Scarah has made her way to me the only other 2013 MH doll I've been *really* eager for is Cat Tastrophe. It almost makes me kind of sad but then I remember all the FCA dolls that will be here in a few months -- and the anticipating/obsessing/buying process starts all over again! Mattel, you really are geniuses ;)

    4. I got Cat Tastrophe yesterday. Jealous much? 0:-)

    5. Woo-hoo! Congrats! What's your favorite thing about her? I can't wait to finally have her myself! (And in my looked-forward to dolls "list" in my previous comment I totally forgot Diener Operetta. Doh!)

    6. I can't choose just one thing I love about her. But anyway, I love her eye makeup, it's subtle, and slightly winged-out, which really makes her eyes 'pop!'.
I also love the little cat-toy details, like her belt with the feathers on it, or her studded bracelet which has a little mouse on it.
I also really love her boots. They contrast well with the werecat twins' boots. While theirs are open-toed, black with red soles, hers are red w/ black soles & closed off.
I also saw Frankie, but I couldn't afford her at the moment, but she's really pretty. Bright red lips, with blue & silver eyeshadow, and that awesome peppermint streaked hair!

    7. *Sigh* She really does sound just about perfect. I totally am jealous lol! But also *very* happy for you! Your Frankie description is getting me all worked up. Don't you love how so many of her dolls lately have been so bold in their color schemes? I think it totally breathes new life into her. (Though I still think Scaris Frankie is an underrated, understated gem ;) )

    8. Aww, don't feel too bad. You've got plenty of new dolls that I *still* don't have yet! Not to mention all the older ones that aren't in production anymore. Basic Ghoulia, DT Cleo, DotD Frankie, etc. *sigh*
You'll get Cat Tastrophe soon enough. :)

    9. Hopefully! I'm certainly keeping my eyes peeled, that's for sure! Anyway, glad you're loving her :D

    10. I just got the DC 5-pack for $49NZD tonight. Aww yeah!
Kmart is doing the same thing as Target in the US - charging the Skull Shores 'clearance' price for them. Woo-hoo!
That's about $38 in US dollars. Pretty good deal, huh? I was so happy, I think I might have been a driving hazard on the way home. LOL

      Delete
    11. Woo-hoo! So happy for you, Listie! I know how hard the exclusives can be to get hold of over there. And in the case of the multi-packs, how crazy-expensive they can be! I would have been a hazard too, but we all know I can get a bit "excited" when I find new MH dolls! ;) Anyway, very happy for you!

      Delete
    12. Thanks so much, John. Sorry about changing my mind on your extras, but I just couldn't pass up such a great deal. Dolls can be *really* expensive down here sometimes. One store is charging $60 for the CMC add-on dolls & $35 for the CMC fashion packs! It's crazy!
I'm also really happy that it came with Rochelle & Gil. I've already said I wouldn't go out of my way to get the boy dolls, but they're so rare, I don't know when we'll see him again. And Rochelle is just so unique, I couldn't pass her up! Her purse & shoes are just so adorable! Love her.
Now all I need is Swim Rochelle & then I'll have all of her dolls! I don't know whether to blame you or thank you for turning me into a Rochelle fangirl. lol :D

    13. Hey no worries! I was late getting back to you on it anyway. I think I'll probably just sell them individually. I have way too many dolls (MH and otherwise) at this point. I have to say I'm glad you found your inner Rochelle fangirl. At the moment I'm trying but failing at trying to think of anything about her that's not the best thing ever. ;)

  3. Oooh, congrats on your upcoming 1 year anniversary!

I love your pics of the MH girls, they're always very vibrant and fun :)
And yeah, I get the feeling the girls aren't quite ready to let go of summer yet XD

    1. Congrats on your finds! I think I was just so taken with Swim Rochelle that Swim Frankie kind of fell by the wayside -- but I'm fixing that now! She really is a beautiful doll. Like I mentioned in the post her faceup reminds me of SRM Frankie's faceup, and I *love* that doll. Gil is only staying with me temporarily; I promised a friend he could have Gil when I got the DC 5-pack. Heath, however, is here to stay!

  5. As always, another great review.
My favorite of all the new dolls you photographed for this shoot is "DJ Spectra", who I prefer to call "13 Wishes Spectra". As Spectra's #1 biggest fan across all universes, I'm totally in love with this new incarnation. At first, when I got her, I was a little taken aback by her appearance. She seemed to be a bit off and weird in a bad way. But thankfully, that quickly passed and now, she's one of my 5 favorite MH dolls ever. I wish the gold details and accessory could be silver instead and that her make could be a bit darker but still, she's a real winner.

Btw, I hope to see you a bit more on the MH dolls forum. I'm there as "Porcelain Ghost".

Take care and once again, great job.

    1. Hi Tristan! Thank you so much for the compliments! I totally forgot the whole 13 Wishes thing when I wrote the post! It makes the most sense to call her 13 Wishes Spectra, for sure. I have to admit I'm really fond of calling her DJ Spectra though, it makes me laugh :) Silver accents would've been more fitting for her and probably would've looked a little better overall, but I guess they wanted to keep her in the color scheme of the rest of the line? In any case, I also love her and think she's one of the most unique Spectras we've gotten yet. The playset is cool, too!

I go in phases with posting at MHD. Sometimes I post several times a day, sometimes I don't post for a couple weeks at a time. But I'm usually there at least once a day to check things out. I'll look you up over there!

Thanks for stopping by and commenting!

  7. Hey, John. Have you seen the Legacy Day dolls yet?

They're a bit OTT like GR & Catty Noir, but They're really beautiful. I expect they'll look much better without the capes.
Don't forget to add your thoughts on the thread! :)

    1. LOVE THEM. Unsurprisingly, Apple is my fave, but they all look great! Apple's outfit looks so lux and detailed, really beautiful. Honestly they're not as OTT as I feared they may be, so hooray for that lol. Can't wait for 'em!

  8. im so glad they brought spectras face mold back it makes me want that one even more :) i wonder if they will keep it for future dolls ? what do you think ? did you see on the EAH dolls facebook page that they released the LD pics they look pretty cool !!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Well, they also used the original mold for her DT doll, so I think at the very least we'll be seeing it sporadically on her dolls. Obviously I'd prefer it come back for good but getting it at least occasionally is better than not at all! The LD dolls are *amazing*.

Thanks, and I'm glad you like it. The top was, in part, based on the blouse I wear in my Flickr profile pic. I think they're called neck-tie blouses. Well, that's what I call them.

Let me know if there's any other characters you'd like me to design for. :)

    3. Hey, no self-harm around here, lady! ;) Seriously though, it's cool. I can be late to reply myself sometimes! Hmm, I've been digging Clawdeen hardcore lately. Got any design ideas for her?

    4. Not yet, but I'll see what I can do. Don't know if you want Scaris beauty or DotD spunk for her, though.
      Hmm???

    1. Congrats man! I really like Heath's hair too, how it's harder and sharper than the rest of his molding. It's a cool effect. He's a great doll, glad he's my first "proper" MH manster. (Gil is going to a friend.) Abbey's pretty fab, too! I just wish the purple netting on her dress was removable or not there at all. I love the black jersey dress with bow and the print is so cool! I feel like the netting throws it all off. Otherwise, can't get enough of her. Between her and PD Abbey I'm now convinced she should never *not* have bangs.

  11. I hope you can do a full review about 13 Wishes Spectra ( or DJ Spectra, as you like to call her) soon. I've dressed her up in other Spectra outfits and she looks boo-tiful in each one. Especially in the Basic outfit and the Maul Session ( that's how I called her first independant fashion. You know, the little dress with the silver shawl and the ball purse). However, the truly best outfit for her is Ghouls Night Out. I'm telling you, it makes her look way beyond fierce and gore-geous. You should try with your own. I'm sure you'll love the result. If only her lipstick and eyeshadow/eyeliner were darker, she's be sheer perfection.

Oh, by the way, do you ever have any problems taking pics of Spectra? Her white skin tends to reflect the light too much.

    1. I may do a review of her, but just the doll, not the playset. I love the playset too but obviously the real draw is the beautiful DJ Spectra! Lol :) Her first FP is one of my absolute favorites! My signature Spectra wears it as her "official" outfit because I like it much more than the outfit she came in. That silver wrap is everything! I'll have to try the GNO outfit on DJ S, I bet it does look pretty perfect on her! My absolute favorite Spectra outfit is PD. Everything came together so well, the willowy top, the tights, that wicked little miniskirt. Just perfect! And yes, Spectra is probably the toughest ghoul to photograph, for me. My inside lighting is too warm and throws a yellow cast on her, while outdoors if I don't have it just right she's blown out. I've been saying for a year now I need to update my indoor lighting (not to mention get a better camera) but I just haven't done it. I'm kind of a slacker lol

    2. Don't worry, I only meant a review of the doll. Got no interest in the playset, lol!
Btw, I bought 2 ( because I need one to add to the collection and not touch her, and another that I can use like I want. So yeah.. I know, a lot of money for just a doll but I truly adore Spectra so I don't mind. I might even get a 3rd one, lol).

Now, i just need to finally be able to take decent pics of her, in all her versions. Btw, I also got a 2nd GNO Spectra and totally remove her hat and undid her hairstyle, then, I washed it thoroughly and afterward, I "boiled-washed" her hair before straightening it as much as possible and letting it dry. She's looks simply out of this world. Beyond boo-tiful!

    3. Wow, two of a playset doll! That's some dedication, my friend! You put my Spectra fanboyism to shame lol. I want to see your modded GNO Spectra, she sounds pretty damn fab. Tumblr that girl!

    1. Hey it's totally understandable! I don't see how anyone could *not* like her creepy eyes, silken perfection purple hair, wicked clear limbs, and general eye for topnotch femme metal fashion. I am torn on which "personality" I like better though -- the flighty/semi-ditzy girl in the webisodes or the more sassy girl with a attitude we see in her diaries and box art. Both work really well for her so I guess I like them about the same! Can't wait to see her GNO makeover get Tumbled! :D

      Delete
  13. I'm also torn about her attitude. In the webisodes, she's timid and almost saccharyne sweet while in her diaries and box art, she's quite fierce with a bit of arrogance and very headstrong.

I've just "Tumbled" GNO Spectra and I'll "re-tumble" her again with another little session I just did. ;-)

  14. WOW – that 13W / DJ Spectra is a Queen!! I love how you've re-dressed her. And that hair – dayum! I was also very surprised to see a boy doll on Voicething, but hey – it's often good to be open to new things, right? Like you, I'm generally uninterested in the male dolls, but I must admit I am somewhat drawn to Jackson Jekyll. Oh, and I am really impressed with the Integrity version of Rio from the new Jem line – I find him kinda hot!

    1. Ain't she though! God Spectra is awesome. For real. Believe it or not that's actually the dress she comes in! Take the golden top off and that's what's underneath! And as much as I like the top, I like her much more in just the dress. It's so sexy and fierce and matches her personality perfectly. I never, ever thought I'd get into the male dolls but what do ya know, here we are! I kind of wish I hadn't because it was one of the very few ways I was able to save money from buying dolls. Oh well! Rio has purple hair -- 'nuff said! (I mean that in a good way.)
