Redeeming Scaris

Last night I switched Frankie's Scaris and Picture Day outfits. I was impressed enough with the results that I just had to snap a few pics. Take a look...

Conclusion: Scaris Frankie looks just as good -- if not better -- in the Picture Day outfit than the actual Picture Day doll does! I guess once a Scaris Frankie fanboy, always a Scaris Frankie fanboy. And that's not to take away from the Picture Day doll -- she's still as gorgeous as ever, and looks quite chic in the Scaris outfit. Really, you simply can't go wrong with Frankie, whatever the doll or outfit!

  1. You go quiet for a week & now you can't stop writing or something. lol

Both these Frankie dolls look great in each others' outfits!

BTW, when are you gonna take down the poll & write about it?

    1. It just worked out that way. I found Frankie on Tuesday and got the review up yesterday. Then when I did the clothes swap last night I was really impressed and decided to take some pics for the blog. I was off work yesterday and today so the timing just worked out. Plus I'm always looking for any excuse to sing Scaris Frankie's praises, basically! lol ;)

On the downside, I have a busy weekend ahead so I won't be around much the next few days. I will be doing a doll run though so fingers crossed I find something! (Not holding my breath lol.)

    2. Just realized I totally forgot to answer your question about the poll! I'm going to do a post talking about the it (and the technical difficulties it experienced) within the next week. I've been holding off on it, saving it as a "rainy day" post, so to speak.

    3. That's okay. It's a pity about the muck up with the poll & a bit disappointing that you didn't get more votes on it. :(
BTW, can you put the pics of PD Frankie in the Scaris outfit on your Flickr so I can add them to my favourites?

    4. Well, the thing is, way more people voted than what it shows on the poll. If you read the comments on that post nearly as many people commented as what it shows as final the voting numbers. And the vast number of blog readers (and voters) don't leave comments. Unfortunately most of the votes got lost and Blogger doesn't know why. I reckon it was somewhere in the sixties based on the fluctuating numbers when the poll was open, but it's hard to say. :(

I'll get to it on the PD Frankie shots on Flickr :)

    5. Oh, really? I didn't know that. I thought the numbers would be similar to Cleo's votes. But that's a pretty good number. Perhaps you could start from scratch?

I forgot to mention, have you seen 13 wishes Abbey? I like that she has curly hair, but her outfit looks a bit like a young girl's fairy costume, only in black. I'm not sure what to think. Abbey has so much potential, but I feel like Mattel or should I say the MH designers are too afraid to mix it up with her & take risks?

    6. Well, I'm basing that number on the amount of comments to the post and the fluctuating numbers when the poll was open. I could be wrong. Tbh I'm always surprised (and glad) when people show interest in the blog at all. It's my labor of love but it's also basically a dog and pony show lol. My methods are very low-tech. But it's fun to do and I've made some great friends because of this blog. :D
I'm actually digging that Abbey if only because they finally tried something different with her. Her dolls can be so samey so even the smallest little difference impresses me when it comes to her. I wish they'd take some *real* risks with her designs.

    1. I can't say she's my absolute favorite, but she's easily in my top 5, probably top 3 even. I love her bubbly personality and awkwardness. Her dolls are always among my favorites. I like that they're not afraid to try new things and take risks with her dolls' designs. Some of the other characters could benefit from that treatment. (*cough* Abbey *cough*) But yeah, Frankie's just amazing, such a cutie :)

    1. My top 5 is Cleo, Frankie, Rochelle, Toralei and Ghoulia. I'm not sure which ones would be the top 3. Probably Cleo, Frankie and Rochelle.

  4. well we have 2 in common :) but really its hard to pick because i love rochelle and i like toralei too !! screw it i love them all... but frankie is beautiful, funky, cute, sexy, crazy and cool !! if it weird to talk about a doll that way than color me weird :)

    1. No way man! Imo Scaris Cleo is way sexy. To me MH dolls looks more like they're in their mid-20s (and over for some).

  5. im glad someone shares the same opinion as i do because i think they are cute for kids toys and i think they teach kids that flaws are beautiful and that not everyone is cookie cutter barbie... but i also think they sneak an adult feel in there to appeal to adults as well and i agree about scaris cleo !! i do love the picture day clothes on the scaris frankie it totally brought her to life !!

    1. Aw, I feel bad for Barbie. In the 60's and 70's (and very early 80's), she was very cool, and especially in the 60s, very fashion forward. Unfortunately Mattel has severely devalued the brand, at least when it comes to the playline dolls. When I go doll hunting for MH I scan the Barbie shelves and shake my head in dismay. Very disappointing.
I agree, Mattel has been very subversive with MH, sneaking in lots of subtle details that only adults would get. And I think it's great we have a mainstream doll line champoining a "Be yourself" ethos.
Scaris Cleo=God)des, and I have to admit I really do like Scaris Frankie just as much in the PD outfit as the PD doll! The PD outfit brings out Scaris Frankie's natural, but subtle, fierceness.

  6. Whoa... Those outfits both look like they work better on the other doll. Wild!

    1. It's like PD and Scaris Lagoona all over again, isn't it! Honestly I think what it comes down to in this case is the fact that PD is just an amazing outfit. I think it would enhance just about any Frankie doll. And I'm loving PD Frankie in the Scaris outfit. It gives her a rather prim look, but in a good way.

    2. It is an amazing outfit. Have you tried it on ILF Frankie yet? :)

P.S. Thnaks for putting those extra pics on Flickr.

    3. Not yet but I'm sure I'll get around to it. The PD outfit has rocketed to the top of my faves list so it will be getting a lot of use around here! Your welcome on the pics! :)

  8. I agree with you, John -- I also find that Frankie looks fantastic in nearly any fashion! She was not one of the first MH characters that I purchased, but when I finally did get one (I heart Fashion), I fell in love with her. I've also noticed how her white hair catches different colors depending on the lighting, and it makes for very cool photos. When I'm swapping fashions, I always save Frankie for last, because I know she'll look fab in anything. Are you a fan of the CAM dolls? For those interested, Mattel has more of the torso set available on their online store. I missed them first time around, so super psyched for this second chance to get them! I'm so anxious fo new line releases as well... Although I'm still desperately searching for a PD Operetta.

    1. ILF Frankie is a great one to start your Frankie collection with! What a unique doll! And all the extra clothes and shoes don't hurt either. ;) Frankie is probably the most "mutable" character, in that she really can wear just about anything and look good. Her reflective hair is one of those small touches that you don't notice at first, but when you do you're really impressed and notice it every time you change her clothes. It's a small effect but adds so much.
I like the CAMs, but a big part of that is because they come with more or less "generic" outfits that several dolls can wear. Thanks for the info about the torsos!
As for PD Operetta, I've heard they've taken her out of the shipments for the time being, until they can get the correct masks for the dolls. Not sure how true that is, but that's what I've heard.

  9. i don't know, i have heard that about PD operetta too... but really i cant find any of the wave 2 ones and those 3 are my favs from the PD line!! so i hope that one day soon i will come across PD frankie, lagoona and operetta.

    1. I'm sure they'll show up in your area soon. They're starting to hit wider distribution so it'll happen sooner rather than later. :D

  10. i was also thinking... when we were talking about favorites earlier i forgot all about spectra and she is definitely a favorite of mine :)

    1. I'm bad about that with Spectra, too, sometimes forgetting her for some reason. Same with Operetta for me. So I'd say those two are probably right outside my top 5.

    1. Thanks for sharing! You have a great collection! I don't have the willpower to keep mine boxed so props to you for that, my friend! They look good lined up and stacked like that.

  12. well i have to admit some of them i have taken out and fixed them up a bit like if they have messed up hair or something and i just keep the box and put them back in but really the reason why i have them in the box still is because i want to put them in a display case and i haven't found the right one yet but i want to get a glass display case to fit them all in but for now when i take them out im just careful and cut as less as possible then when i put them back in i just take some thread and use the holes that the original plastic ties were in and just tie them back in because i don't want them to get all dusty and messed up until i get a good enough case for them
