The Royal Treatment
For the second weekend in a row two of Ever After High's little plastic inhabitants have made their way into my life. Last weekend saw a rebellion of sorts; today I was given the royal treatment. Apple White and Briar Beauty quickly dispensed with their polyethylene and cardboard jail cells and got to posing for some quickie pics in the backyard...

Somehow I didn't notice Briar's bun in the promo pictures. It's so neat! Is her dress one piece? Is it separate from the shoulder thing?
ReplyDeleteNow that you have all 4, what do you think of them, which is your favourite? I think the head sculpt works best for Apple and Maddie has the best designed look (although I prefer Raven because of... reasons).
Yep, Briar's dress is a one piece, and the shoulder pads are an entirely separate piece as well. It has some cool little details; I especially like the pattern of the black beads and how they lay.
DeleteHmm, now you have me wondering what these reasons are. :) I like the dolls quite a bit. I feel they each have their own strong, unique "attitude". But they also work well as a line. My favorite is Apple. Her blue eyes are very striking, and she has the best hair, in both style and texture.
Nothing interesting about my reasons, let's just say Raven and I have a lot in common. Now that you mentioned the hair, do any of them have bad hair? Like Ghoulia's? Please oh please don't say Raven has Ghoulia's hair, that thing is absolute hell to style!
DeleteHmm, tbh I usually like Ghoulia's hair quite a bit! Just goes to show the wide array of opinions and tastes within MH fandom! :) But no Raven's hair texture is very different from Ghoulia's. Ghoulia I believe uses the kanekalon while Raven's is saran.
DeleteSomething about Apple's skin charms me. It reminds me of porcelain. Well, I guess that was what the creators intended.
ReplyDelete(On a completely unrelated note, I looked back to my first comment here, in the Skelita post, and I noticed that my English has improved quite a lot! Not UK level, obviously, but I'm still happy. Internet is pretty useful for practicing languages.)
Now that you say it, I can see the porcelain look. Especially under the eyes, at the top of her cheeks, it has a sort of glow and creamy shine. Nice!
DeleteGood job on the English speak -- though from the beginning here I thought your grasp of the language was good.
Ooh, so pretty! Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteNow that you have them all in person, have your opinions changed on any of them?
And would you agree with me about the royal girls similarities to Scaris Clawdeen?
As always, I can't wait for the rest of your EAH reviews, John. :)
Well I still like Apple the most. I probably had the biggest change with Raven, who I like more than I thought I would.
DeleteSo exciting!!! And these are gorgeous pics :) Can't wait to see full reviews :D
ReplyDeleteThe more I see the dolls, the more I am changing from a Rebel fan to a Royal fan. There's something about the face mold that fits these two dolls better than the other two...
Thanks Astro! The facemold is a bit dainty so maybe that lends itself well to the more straightforward princess look of Apple and the pink, flowery thing Briar has going on? I think they all work pretty well though I do have my favorites. (I'm split down the middle, one rebel fave and one royal fave.)
DeleteBriar's left eye looks bigger than her right one...? (sorry if mentioning this has just completely ruined your appreciation of her otherwise splendid beauty!)
ReplyDeleteNo worries Esther, the one is smaller but I don't mind it. If you look at Apple she has the same thing. I actually noticed it at the store and they had other Apples with same size eyes but, I don't know, I really liked this one. I totally didn't notice it on Briar til I got home though. Whoops!
DeleteMmm I guess I'm just picky about these kind of things, haha! I spent more than half an hour fussing over how many black streaks I wanted in my Dance Class Operetta's hair at the shop. XD
DeleteI'm glad it doesn't detract from your experience, must make your shopping quite a bit easier! Can't wait for these dolls to finally reach Southeast Asia!
Well I don't just grab the first one I see, I take some time to look through all the stock on the shelf. But I don't hang around a while either. I find one that works for me and grab it. Hair is just as important as faceup for me so quite often I'll grab a doll with a minor facial imperfection if she has amazing hair. But there are times when I miss stuff too, such as with Briar. Basically, when it comes to Mattel dolls I think any collector is doing theirself a favor by taking time to inspect the dolls before buying.
DeleteCongratulations on getting all the EAH girls so early! Mega jealous!
ReplyDeleteI totally *love* Briar's shoulder piece! Do you agree with me about the royal girls having some similarities to Scaris Clawdeen? And have your opinions changed on any of them since seeing the promo pics & now having them for real?
As always, I can't wait for your reviews on these 2 beauties (and Maddie). :D
Oh I forgot to answer your Clawdeen question, didn't I? Apple's hairstyle is similar but the location of the band on her head is a bit different. Apple's hair is more prominently curly than Scaris Clawdeen's and the texture is a little different. It has a little gel in it but not so much that it's distracting or anything. Plus gel can always be rinsed out, of course.
DeleteWow, your Apple's hair is just the best out-of-box hair I've ever seen. Now just can't wait when my Apple arrive ^^
ReplyDeleteBy the way, have you seen the situation in Justice online store? Maddie is out of stock already.
Thanks Elly. Not to toot my own horn but I have noticed looking around online that the other Apples I've seen don't seem to have hair quite this nice. But then, mine has two different sized eyes so I guess it all evens out lol.
DeleteI didn't know that, actually. Tbh I didn't even know you could buy them online from Justice. I wonder how much stock they keep on hand for their online store? My local Justice has a ton of Maddies right now.
It's so hard to wait for Ever After High to come to Finland! We don't even know for sure that they will. Well, at least we get Monster High :) It might take some time, but in the end they all show up. Well, certain exclusives don't, which really annoys me, but a girl can't have it all, right? :)
ReplyDeleteAnd like always, your pictures are beautiful. They make me want the dolls even more than I did before (and I really, really wanted the dolls from the start!) :D Keep posting, I love reading your reviews!
If you're able to get MH that probably bodes well for your chances of getting EAH :) Thank you for the kind words!
DeleteA *second* wave of Swim Dolls! Boo-yah!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.monsterhighdolls.com/forum/topics/new-swim-dolls
Frankie, Rochelle, and Holt!
I love Frankie! Which one do you like? :D
Wow! LOVE Rochelle's circa '58 hairstyle. I like that even in Swim doll form they're keeping her style focused on late 50's-early 60's! Can't wait to get her! I'm not digging Frankie's SS but her hair! Holy crap! Bold, blue streaks -- so cool! Love her faceup, too! I'm neither here nor there on Holt -- he's a male doll which equals boring for me.
DeleteI just recently bought Frankie's complete Gloom Beach outfit on eBay, in preparation for this swim doll. The blue in her hair, pink lips, and I'm assuming yellow eyeshadow will look really cool with that outfit. The GB swimsuit is my favourite of hers. :)
DeleteI don't know if you've checked that topic recently, but they've got better pics of all 3 dolls. Frankie's wearing clear, fluorescent yellow shoes. I think her bracelets are her S1600 bracelets recoloured in translucent blue? And Rochelle's cuff is her signature also recoloured in clear turquoise.
I've always really liked Frankie's GB swimsuit. The cut is pretty standard but the print is so colorful and vivacious! I can definitely see the new Swim doll being a perfect match for it! Although I have to say the new swimsuit has grown on me. Agreed about the bracelets, definitely look like a recolored, translucent version of the S1600 ones. (Which I love btw, they work on a variety of dolls and outfits.)
DeleteI did see the better Swim pics. Rochelle is such a sweetie and her swimsuit perfectly matches her personality. Gotta love that hair too! They're really coming through on all the Rochelle dolls. They've all looked gorgeous, have successfully conveyed her kind personality, and always seem to fit a late 50's/early 60's aesthetic. Now that we've seen better pics of Holt I can say with certainty that he's the worst male doll to date -- he's very tacky and garish.
Aye, that new swimsuit is growing on me, too.
DeleteIt looks like it's split down the middle with one half black w/ white & yellow bolt & nut design while the other half is yellow w/ B&W design. Very Cruella De Vil-ish.
I also love the blue plastic lightning bolts, and how they mimic the lapels of a jacket.
She's on par with Venus from the first wave. They're my faves from each wave.
I really hate Holt's sunnies, they're more Mardi Gras than beach wear. I don't think even Elton John would wear them, lol. But I like his tank top, and the fact that it's another chance for people to get a doll of him (and the articulated wrists are a plus).
I'm definitely digging this Frankie! Love her face and those bright blue streaks. Holt is just awful, awful, awful. Seriously, hate! Lol!
DeleteOkay, I heard you the first time. lol XD
DeleteLol sorry, I just don't think it's possible for me to get across in words how much I dislike that doll. Hehe
Deletewow your blog is turning into EAH instead of MH, but i still love it and the EAH dolls are great and you cant really even tell that briar has the eye problem and you cant tell at all on apple, i loved reading their books you scanned thanks for that bc i don't have a justice even remotely in my area witch is another reason im sad about the new swim dolls bc i have the first 3 released but the second wave is justice exclusive and the thing about it is i love frankie, and rochelle is also a favorite of mine and both of them look great !! i guess i have to try to find them online ( if they don't scalp the prices up ) have you seen any of the comic con reveals ? so far all i have seen is the sweet screams and i think that will be an awesome line, i actually think the draculaura in that line will be a fav of mine and that's odd bc i never really get to into lala but this one is just cool i will have to see it in person but i love the heart shaped eyes and the cool hair wraps and not to mention the awesome gloves and i love the frankie too, she is a little weird at first but she grew on me and i can never deny a frankie anyways... also who is this boolittle i know she is a new character but what is she what kind of monster and it looks like she is part of the sweat screams line ( i wanted to just put ss for sweat screams but then you also have skull shores so we need to figure out an abbreviation for sweat screams :) ) they still have reveals for fri, sat and sun so all the new stuff hasn't been revealed yet, i hope they have some great stuff coming !! did you see on the MH dolls facebook page that someone is buying weberellas for $25 and then taking them to another booth at the same convention and selling them for $100 ? i think that is totally messed up and i cant believe mattel didn't have security take care of them !! i finally seen the reveal pic for the hunter and ashlynn 2 pack and i really like it, what do you think ? wow when i think of all the new dolls you have gotten so far and the new stuff coming i realize you have a lot writing to do and i cant wait to read your reviews :)
ReplyDeleteWell, tbh the reason there's been so much EAH coverage is because that's what is really exciting me right now! But I promise you, MH is my first and biggest love between the two. :D It sucks you don't have a Justice in your town. Yet another reason why making so many dolls exclusives aggravates me -- not everyone has every store near them!
DeleteI don't want to go too deeply into my feelings on the SDCC reveals because I'll be doing an overview post on all things SDCC soon. Including some talk on the ridiculousness of how Mattel keeps opening their booth early before fans can get in. Keep your eyes peeled for that!
I'm not really digging the Hunter doll, but you know how I feel about male dolls in general so that's hardly a surprise. I *LOVE* Ashlynn's doll! She's absolutely gorgeous! Her clock purse is really cute and clever. Can't wait to get my hands on that doll!
yeah i really love the EAH dolls too !! my favs so far are apple and ashlynn... though i cant wait to see a kitty and lizzy dolls i think those 2 will be great !! i seen on the MH facebook page that they leaked a teaser pic of a 2 pack with ghoulia and what looks to be slow moe... if that is what it is im really excited bc im so glad that ghoulia finally gets her man !! :) also if you ever come across the wave 2 swim dolls on line for a good price let me know bc the more i see frankie and rochelle the more i love them especially frankie i love the blue in her hair so unique !! when i say there is no justice in my area i mean i would have to drive like 2 or 3 states away just to try to get them and i cant do that... also is EAH justice exclusive bc that's the only place i have heard they have shown up ?
ReplyDeleteYeah, Kity and Lizzie are look SO promising! Their designs are so unique, really cool! I'll definitely keep you updated on the Swim dolls if I find them for cheap! All I ask is you do the same for me, Ricky! :D So far yeah, the EAH dolls are Justice exclusives, but I think they're gonna go wide soon. Just a hunch, though i could be wrong.
Deletei will do the same any info i see or hear i usually share it here with you
ReplyDeleteThanks Ricky!
