The lineup is exactly what was rumored: Robecca, Lagoona, and Spectra.
Robecca looks beautiful here -- they've eased up on the silver shadow (from what I can tell there's none at all), and replaced the lavender with a somewhat muted magenta shade. Her lips look to be an orange-red. For the first time her hair is completely straight. I hope it's made of kanekalon and not saran. She comes with a gramophone iCoffin dock, which is very cool and very real, albeit stylized. I'm not a big fan of the DT slippers usually, but I'm totally digging Robecca's! Her pj's are pretty cool I guess; mostly I just like the top.
I'm really liking all the middle-parts they've been giving Lagoona lately -- first SRM and her Swim doll, then GNO, and now this doll. Her makeup is simple (as it should be for this line), and I love the bright colors. Check out those pink lemonade lips -- nice!
And finally, a DT Spectra!!! She should've been in Wave 2, but whatever. She's here now and she's stunning! I was really curious how they would do this doll's makeup. Funnily enough, this is actually really close to the makeup of her basic doll. And based on this pic it looks like she'll have the original facemold! Of course, the manufactured doll may be different. Please don't change it, Mattel! This doll is gorgeous and my favorite of the three.
I'm definitely excited for this line! It's a big improvement over Wave 2, if only because the characters are more interesting than the Wave 2 ones. These three certainly aren't as overused as the Wave 2 characters were. Robecca looks very promising, and if Spectra does indeed have the original facemold... well, I don't know what, but yeah I'll totally be into her! The extras are pretty good, the pj's have some variety (remove the netting from Spectra's sleeves and that could pass as a baby doll dress), and the faceups all fit the bedtime theme. Can't wait for these!
i know, i really want these too... i have most the first wave and draculaura form the second wave (i haven't been able to find clawdeen or abby) but i think all 3 of these dolls look amazing, but then again i love a subtle more muted face up :)
ReplyDeleteThe natural (for MH) faces of the DT dolls is the real draw for me. I don't care about the pj's at all lol. Although I do think Spectra's gown looks really nice.
DeleteAm I crazy for wishing DT Robecca & GNO Rochelle shold be in each others places?
ReplyDeleteRobecca only has her basic & DC dolls, while Rochelle has her basic, Scaris, GNO & DC dolls.
I think Becca's (can I call her that?) pyjmamas are too similar to her shirt & shorts combo from her recent FP, making either or redundant. I feel that Rochelle would be better suited to DT. I think she'd look really cute in a night dress with wavy or curly hair & minimal makeup.
As for why I think Robecca would be better suited to GNO, aside from the fact that she has so few dolls, I think she could pull off the party dress better (I like GNO Rochelle, and I'll probably buy her, but she could have been so much better).
I can totally imagine Robecca in a military-style mini dress, with 2 rows of buttons & a mandarin collar.
Yes, I know that's not really steampunk, but who are we kidding? Becca's only really pseudo-steampunk.
Maybe I should sew her a dress? :)
Nah, you ain't crazy -- that idea honestly makes perfect sense. :) My response -- how about we get both dolls in both lines! The more Rochelle the better, I say. :D And I'm always up for seeing Robecca in different outfits with new faceups. She ain't really steampunk but they've definitely come up with a couple of cool outfits for her between her dolls and FP's. Are you a seamstress, Felicity? Even if you aren't, you should give it a shot and sew her a dress!
DeleteNo, I'm not a seamstress, but I do know how to sew.
DeleteI did sewing in High School (I was even in the school fashion show one year; I have it on DVD).
I've actually been buying different fabrics so I can make dresses for the dolls & some patterns from Etsy;

^Those are the 2 that I bought.
Gotta get off my ass & make some dresses sometime. :D
Oh wow, those are some amazing patterns! Seriously, love them! The dress in the upper right hand corner of the first link is my fave of those (love the fabric they chose, too), and the outfit Ghoulia's wearing in the second link is pretty much blowing my mind. I *love* Edwardian fashion. Good choices! You'll have to show me your fabric choices!
DeleteThe one with the vertical stripes?
DeleteIt's pretty, but I'll have a go at that one later than the others because it has a collar (which will be difficult to sew).
I love the red halter dress, the black polka-dot dress, the dark red dress & the babydoll dress (in the bottom right corner) the most.
I've got mostly satin in different colours, plus some chiffon (translucent wispy material), and I bought some red oriental brocade (for Jinafire).
I'll post some pics on Flickr.
I uploaded a couple of pics to my Flickr photostream;

I added the fabric types to the comments & made fun of myself. lol
That makes sense. FWIW I also love the baby doll dresses. I love brocade in general, it sounds perfect for Jina!
DeleteJust saw the second comment! They look really nice! The Jina fabric is amazing -- good choice(s)!
DeleteThanks. :)
DeleteIf you ever want me to make you a dress, just hit me up with a message & I'll gladly help you. ;D
Cool, thank you! :D
DeleteHey Felicity -- I purchased those Monster High patterns, and although I've only made the short skirt with waistband so far, it turned out really well. And it was fairly easy to construct, too. I've sewn doll fashions for years, and my main piece of advice to make the experience a pleasurable one is to choose fabrics that are easy to work with. If the fabric is extremely lightweight and sheer; or if it frays a lot; or if it's incredibly stretchy in all directions, it will be a nightmare to work with. Cotton and cotton blends are a dream to work with. Also, knits that stretch in only one direction are fairly easy if you want to make something form-fitting (like tights).
DeleteThanks Eric. That sounds like good advice. I shall definitely follow it.
DeleteI'll go & but some cotton fabrics tomorrow.
I'm pleased that the patterns work well. :)
I'll probably get some black & white cotton & modify that A-line dress. (see what I did there? lol)
ReplyDeleteI was thinking something like this. Of course, I'd change the pink & orange to B & W and make the white panels green or something.
OMG! Totally forgot to mention that dress would be intended for Scarah!
DeleteNo wonder my joke looked dumb by itself. lol
I don't know if you saw it on Flickr, but here's how I imagined it;

Oh wow, that's awesome! The minimalist, pop art-style print fits her 60's theme, too. Good job! Agreed about the clover thing btw!
DeleteThanks :D
DeleteThis is what I had in mind for Robecca;

With a few steam punk motifs, but not too gaudy.
I'd pair it with some fishnet tights & some knee high boots. :D
Wow, I love the first dress in particular! Definitely digging those clean, simple, lines and silhouette. Throw a few steampunk baubles on there and I can totally see it working for Robecca! I like the second dress too but it's hard to tell if it has the structured details like the first dress has. It looks like it probably does!
DeleteExcept the zipper. Zippers aren't age-appropriate for Robecca's steam punk style. :)
DeleteBTW, I just did a Google image search on 'military style dress' or 'military mini dress'. Perhaps you'll find something even better?
